Intel’s Sandy Bridge chips, which are ticking inside 2011 MacBook Pro and iMac computers, are all the rage in the chips business at the moment. However, the pundits are already watching closely a next-generation Sandy Bridge successor code-named Ivy Bridge. Intel originally planned on bringing first Ivy Bridge chips in late 2011, with volume manufacturing set to begin early in the first quarter of 2012. Apple has published updates to all of the apps in its iWork suite on the Mac and iOS platforms. Pages for iPhone and iPad was bumped to version 2.2.2, while Pages for Mac reached version 5.2.2. Keynote for Mac was updated to version 6.2.2 and its iOS version went to 2.2.2. Both versions of Numbers were also updated, with the iOS version coming to 2.2.2 and the Mac version hitting 3....

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple’s May 4th motion for a California version of the Proview/iPad trademark case to be dismissed has been approved. The saga has been long-running, with Proview claiming that Apple illegally purchased the right to use the “iPad” trademark in China. Apple filed a request for the case dismisal when it reached the U.S. because they say it’s an issue relating solely to the iPad trademark in China....

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus led the way, together combining to lead Apple’s sales and account for nearly one in five smartphones sold....

Contract manufacturer Wistron has confirmed reports that iPhone assembly was suspended following a riot at its plant in Bangalore, India. Video footage (below) shows people attacking assembly units, smashing windows, overturning cars, and starting a fire. Wistron puts the total cost of the damage at 4.38B rupees ($60M). The violent protest, which took place on Saturday, was said to be over underpaid wages by Wistron. Multiple reports say that the riot involved almost 2,000 workers, with more than 100 of them arrested by police …...
