Earlier today, a keyboard with much better support for the supposed iPad Pro, a device that has been rumored for some time now, was shown off thanks to the iOS 9 code. Steve Troughton Smith and Hiraku Wang now suggest that the iPad Pro will feature a resolution of 2732×2048, which at 12.9-inches, comes out to 263 pixels-per-inch.

The current iPad Air 2 features a resolution of 2048×1536 at 9.7-inches. This means that the iPad Pro will nearly have the width resolution of two 9.7-inch iPads running next to each other. With iOS 9, Apple introduced a new Split-Screen and Slide-Over functionality that will greatly benefit from the increased size and resolution of an iPad Pro. Theoretically, users of the iPad Pro could run nearly two full-size iPad apps side-by-side.

With 2048×1536 resolution, current iPad apps could also run on the iPad Pro scaled up 2x, similar to how iPhone apps are run on the iPhone. Although, Apple will obviously encourage developers to build with the new 2048×1536 resolution in mind, in addition to the current iPad resolution.

The leaked keyboard shown earlier today features the ability to readjust itself at higher resolutions with a new row of symbols and characters.

Apple is expected to announce the iPad Pro later this fall and likely targeted at business and education markets. The device is rumored to have compatibility with keyboards and support for USB devices, perhaps in the form of USB-C. Apple is expected to make a variety of optimizations to iOS for the iPad Pro, including the possible addition of support for multiple users. Another rumored feature of the device is a set of stereo speakers, as opposed to the mono setup found on the current iPads.

1366x1024pt for an iPad Pro at least means it won’t just be a ‘scaled iPad’, but software can take advantage of that new space

@Gen_Zer0 that is 2732×2048.

And from keyboard size we can know that “iPad pro” is 1366×1024 (maybe @2x) pic.twitter.com/VYlkXiWHVa
