Elf follows Buddy (Ferrell), a human who was raised by Santa’s elves since he was a child. After finding out the truth about his adoption from Papa Elf (Newhart), Buddy travels to New York City to find his real father, Walter Hobbs (Caan). Upon his first time experiencing the real world, Buddy realizes that humans are very cynical and they lack Christmas cheer. Buddy spends time with his new family while trying to start a relationship with his biological father. In the meantime, Buddy makes an effort at changing the world’s perception when it comes to Christmas and the power of Santa.
The holiday comedy is full of laughs but it also contains a lot of heart. It’s a perfect film for viewers of all ages so it’s no surprise that there is a demand for the movie each holiday season. Elf stands as one of Ferrell’s best performances but the actor isn’t too keen on the possibility for a sequel. Instead, the beloved Christmas title has inspired a Broadway musical, a stop-motion special called Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas, and tons of merchandise. Unfortunately, those looking to stream Elf online won’t be able to find it on the most popular streaming services and will have to pay separately in order to watch it online.
