Now we have 9RT 5G following the OnePlus series of premium phones. Since OnePlus has been providing splashproof and waterproof features to most of their flagship devices, it’s normal to be wondering whether the OnePlus 9RT 5G is waterproof or not. So here in this article, we have got answers for you. To claim a phone to be fully waterproof it should at least have an IP rating of IP67. In this, the first digit after IP denotes the level of protection against solid particles such as dust. The next digit denotes the level of protection against liquid regression or liquid protection. So the higher the number in the second digit, the higher the protection your device has against water. So in the case of the OnePlus 9RT 5G, we don’t have a manufacturer rating of IP68, which begs the question of waterproof.

The Oneplus 9RT 5G features a 6.62 inches FHD+ AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080p x 2400 pixels. It is a high refresh rate panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, we have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 which is an octa-core processor with one Kryo 680 core clocked at 2.84 GHz, three Kryo 680 cores clocked at 2.42 GHz, and four Kryo 680 cores clocked at 1.80 GHz. And for the sensors, we have an under-display optical fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass. Powering it all is a 4500 mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging. Is OnePlus 9RT 5G Waterproof Smartphone?
Generally, an IP 68 rating means that the phone is completely dust-tight. This means this phone is more than sufficient for your normal day-to-day work. Even if you work or live in a very dusty area. On the waterside of things, we have an IPX8 rating, which is the highest one could get for a consumer product. This rating means that the phone can withstand an immersion of water greater than 1 meter for more than 30 minutes. This specification may increase based on the manufacturer. But to comply with the IP code, the test should withstand the aforementioned condition.
Since OnePlus 9RT is not officially a waterproof smartphone, you can’t really use it near water bodies as there will always be a risk of liquid damage. If you wish to clean your phone, then you can by using a soft cloth as well as some drips of water and nothing else. You can also some cleaning solutions like IPA if you have access to them.
Conclusion
Although I have seen many people test their phones using water by washing or rinsing them in the water faucet. Even some people wash them in a bucket full of water to demonstrate the waterproof capability of the phone. But that’s doesn’t mean the smartphone is fully waterproof. We recommend users not to try such stunts as it will ultimately harm your device beyond repairs. If you live near areas of water bodies or your profession requires you to deal with water on day to day basis (swimmer, swim coach, beach officer, etc) then we recommend getting a waterproof casing for the device.
