James Van Der Beek was reunited with his Dawson’s Creek parents this week on Dancing with the Stars. His on-screen parents from his time on the 90’s teen drama were in the audience to support him.
Van Der Beek was shot into stardom when he landed the main role of Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek - a popular 90’s teen drama series. He then went on to star in bigger TV shows and movies. Van Der Beek is a current contestant of Dancing with the Stars, where he’s been partnered up with dance pro, Emma Slater. The father of five, who recently shared with fans that he and his wife Kimberly Van Der Beek are expecting baby number 6, is currently a frontrunner in the competition.
Mary-Margaret Humes and John Wesley Shipp, the actors who famously played Gail and Mitch Leery, the parents to Van Der Beek’s Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek, attended the live filming of Dancing with the Stars this past week. Van Der Beek did his part of Disney night by performing a Pirates of the Caribbean inspired paso doble. He received a brilliant score of 26 out of 30 and the proud moment was shared with his on-screen family. Mary went to Instagram to post the happy moment where she posed alongside John and Van Der Beek who was still dressed in his pirate costume. The “family” were all smiles for the first photo taken of all three of them in over 18 years. Check out the post below:
The proud “mom” posted the picture with a heartfelt caption, reading, “So proud of this one right here!!!” Mary said she had “such an awesome night in the ballroom” watching Van Der Beek perform. She then revealed that it was the first picture the trio had taken in over 18 years and revealed that “#family is everything!!!” In another Instagram picture she posted of her and John just prior to attending the live filming of Dancing with the Stars, she wrote, “And we are off to cheat on our favorite ‘son,’” tagging Van Der Beek. She continued, “They are going to slay their Paso Doble tonight!!!” She then encouraged all of the Dawson’s Creek fans to vote for Van Der Beek via text.
It seems that Van Der Beek just keeps heating up and is dominating the competition. It shows what an amazing dancer and performer the Dawson’s Creek alum is by the fact that he didn’t crack under the pressure of knowing that his Dawson’s Creek “parents” were in the audience. As of right now, he’s definitely proven himself to be the frontrunner in the competition so far. Fans will have to watch and see if his practice will continue to pay off.
