One of the endearing traits of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is how prominent BD-1 is, and how repairing and upgrading the droid throughout the game becomes a point of pride for Cal and players looking to improve both their own and their robot child’s quality of life. One of the early challenges players will face is one that renders BD-1 in desperate need of some repairs after an unfortunate and harrowing encounter with a Bog Rat. While BD-1 will end up mostly okay, he’ll also be a little less effective than Cal would like, as the Bog Rat will damage BD-1’s Scomp Link, an important item in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Once players figure out what Cal Ketsis’ true mission in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is after visiting the planet Bogano, they’ll be faced with a choice: head to Dathomir, where they can unlock the double-bladed lightsaber that wowed audiences late in the game’s launch build-up; or travel to Zeffo instead, where they will find themselves in the Tomb of Eilram and solving a puzzle. While it can be tempting to grab the lightsaber, which is obviously one of the cooler additions to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, getting BD-1’s Scomp Link and repairing the droid should be a top priority because it will unlock an important ability within the game.
If players want to repair BD-1’s Scomp Link in Jedi: Fallen Order, they’ll be rewarded with the ability to open some otherwise impossible to pass through doors. These doors will typically contain some goodies for Cal and BD-1, making them extremely desirable - and the earlier in the game players have access to a repaired BD-1 Scomp Link, then the faster they begin reaping the rewards that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has in store for those who prioritize BD-1’s well-being.
How to Repair BD-1’s Scomp Link in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
To repair BD-1’s Scomp Link, players will first need to complete the Zeffo temple mission in order to unlock Cal’s Force Push ability. While this does mean delaying the double-bladed lightsaber pickup, it’s well worth it. After completing the mission, players need to navigate Zeffo towards the Weathered Monument, where they’ll find a wall of rocks just begging to be Force Pushed. Doing so will unlock a path towards a conspicuous bench that can be used to upgrade BD-1. Using the bench immediately progresses players toward the next area and unlocks a brand new Scomp Link for BD-1.
How to Use BD-1’s Scomp Link to Slice Chests and Doors
BD-1’s Scomp Link is one of the most useful tools in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Once players have it, they’ll be able to slice imperial tech like chests and doors. The red chests that players might have seen previously during exploration can be opened now, and while most of the items found within them are still more of the usual that one might expect from ordinary chests, the resources will help players craft their lightsaber to their liking much faster.
The biggest draw to BD-1’s Scomp Link is that it also lets players shorten the playing time of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - or, at least, the more boring parts of that playing time. Being able to slice doors often cuts through a lot of the more maze-like regions of the game, still allowing Cal to show off his Force powers but cutting down on the time spent navigating hallways.
