The Jersey Shore crew was missing a member at the MTV Video Music Awards, as Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is still in prison. However, his wife - Lauren Pesce - walked the red carpet in his place, updating his friends (and fans) about how he has been doing. Pesce felt honored to represent her famous husband at the VMAs.
The 38-year-old reality TV star has been incarcerated since mid-January after he was sentenced to eight-months jail time for tax evasion when he failed to pay taxes on his $9 million dollar income. Sorrentino is currently being held in the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, New York. The place where he is staying has a reputation of being one of the better federal prisons, where inmates have access to recreational activities like tennis, and where they have holiday cookouts together. The indictment happened just months after marrying Pesce and after being 34 months clean from his prescription pain killer addiction.
The newlyweds have been through a lot in the first year of marriage. Even though the pair has started off the marriage a little bumpy, the two have talked about wanting to start a family together. At the VMAs, Sorrentino’s wife, Pesce, was alongside the other women Jersey Shore, Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley, Deena Cortese, and Angelina Pivarnick. Since Sorrentino couldn’t be there, it meant a lot to the crew and fans that she would be there in his place. Access interviewed Pesce, asking her for an update on her husband.
Pesce said that “he’s so good.” She explained that she felt like it was an honor to stand in his place at the MTV event, saying, “I feel like I’m representing for him and I feel strong enough to do so, with the girls next to me." She went onto explain how she can’t wait for her husband’s return, saying, “We’re lucky and we’re so excited for him to be home.” Sorrentino is expected to be released on September 12, 2019, right before their 1st wedding anniversary.
Even though the newly married couple hasn’t had the ideal first year of marriage, it still showed that the vows that they made toward each other at the altar were true. If the Sorrentinos could make it through these tough eight-months, they can take on anything. As for the future, fans can’t wait to see the new “guido” and “guidette” that will be coming to the Jersey Shore family. In the meantime, Pesce can look forward to her husband’s return.
