Jerusalem’s Lot, a TV series based on Stephen King’s short story prequel to Salem’s Lot, is headed to EPIX, and here’s what we know so far. Since King first burst onto the literary scene with Carrie in the mid-1970s, there’s been no shortage of theatrical films, TV movies, and miniseries serving to adapt the author’s work. However, one avenue that hasn’t been explored that often is turning King’s stories into full-on TV series, whether meant for a single season run or planned to last multiple years.
This may be due to how hit and miss the ones that have been produced have turned out. Kingdom Hospital started out with strong ratings, then petered out, ending after 15 episodes. Haven ran for five seasons, but experienced peaks and valleys in quality, although it did that while amassing a dedicated cult audience. CBS’ Under the Dome earned positive marks for its first season, which served to adapt most of the book, then took a creative nose dive in seasons 2 and 3, before ultimately being canceled without resolving the plot.
Now, it’ll soon be time to see on which side of the quality fence EPIX’s TV series adaptation of King’s short story Jerusalem’s Lot falls. The project was only recently announced, but here’s what we know so far.
Jerusalem’s Lot Release Date
EPIX’s 10-episode Jerusalem’s Lot TV series was officially announced as happening on December 19, 2019. The project will be EPIX’s first in-house production, as the battle to catch eyes with original programming continues to ramp up. Production on Jerusalem’s Lot is planned to begin in May 2020, and will take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Jerusalem’s Lot doesn’t have a firm release date this early on, but is likely to premiere sometime in fall 2020.
Jerusalem’s Lot Story Details
Jerusalem’s Lot is an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story of the same name, first published in 1978’s Night Shift collection. It’s a sort of prequel to King’s novel Salem’s Lot, although not in the direct narrative sense. The story is set in the 1850s, and centers on Charles Boone, who moves himself and his three children into his family’s ancestral home in Preacher’s Corners, Maine after the death of his wife. Unfortunately, things soon take a turn for the Lovecraftian, as Boone discovers his unsettling family connection to the cursed village called Jerusalem’s Lot.
Jerusalem’s Lot Cast
So far, the cast of Jerusalem’s Lot on EPIX includes only one name, Adrien Brody (King Kong, Predators). Naturally, the Oscar-winner will star as Charles Boone. Casting Brody is already getting things off on the right foot though, as he’s a reliably good performer.
