Jon and Kate Plus 8’s Jon Gosselin reveals that he and ex-wife Kate Gosselin will never “see eye to eye” when it comes to co-parenting their eight children. The family has been at odds with each other since they separated back in 2009.
Jon and Kate achieved fame on the TLC reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8, in which viewers followed her and Jon as they raised their family of sextuplets and twins. The pair were married in 1999 and welcomed their twins in 2001. Their sextuplets were born in 2004 and the family began filming their reality TV show, Jon and Kate Plus 8 three years later. Jon left the show amid his divorce with Kate. Jon’s ex-wife then continued with TLC with her spinoff show Kate Plus 8 that lasted for over a decade. Kate said that it was fortunate the show came about when it did because, without the financial support of the show, the reality star admitted that she wasn’t sure where her family would be if it weren’t for the show. Kate recently defended the fact that she doesn’t allow her children to have a relationship with their father, but this time Jon is speaking out.
The 42-year-old father opened up about how it is to be co-parenting with ex-wife Kate. The pair share 18-year-old twin daughters, Madelyn and Cara, and 15-year-old sextuplets, Collin Hannah, Leah, Alexis, Aaden, and Joel. Jon spoke to Us Weekly during a Victoria’s Voice event in Las Vegas on Friday, October 25th. He said, “I don’t think co-parenting is ever going to exist between us because we are never going to see eye to eye.” Jon explained, “We have completely different parenting styles and she still wants to film, but I’m never going to sign work permits. That already went to court and I won but she went against my legal rights.”
Jon, who has custody of Collin and Hannah, rarely gets to visit his six other children and due to that has little-to-no relationship with them. He blames this on Kate’s interference. He said, “I agree [that they are my children] but their mother [Kate] puts roadblocks all the way.” He explained, “So, at this point, I’ve agreed that as long as Hannah and Collin still talk to their siblings and the kids can interact with each other, then that’s fine with me. I’ll go along. And I don’t have no direct contact as of right now.” He revealed that since the legal battle regarding Kate wanting to film again and not wanting his kids to participate, it became “a media circus.” Jon even explained that his 18-year-old twins “have asked me not to speak about them to the media.”
It seems that the strained relationship between him and his other six children is suffering due to the poor co-parenting between him and his ex-wife. It seems that the parents could take some cues from other celebrity couples who have mastered co-parenting like Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick. Regardless, one thing is for sure, Jon and Kate plus 8 fans will not be seeing Jon and his children on TLC in a reality TV show anytime soon like
