The tweak is called Zephyr and it brings new multitasking gestures that are inspired by Meego’s Swipe interface. The foundation of Meego-known for running on the now defunct Nokia N9-was the ability to maneuver around the operating system with edge swipes. The Swipe navigation method was very smooth on the Nokia N9 and the port through Zephyr to iOS is just as handy....

Apple’s design chief Jony Ive sat down with Smithsonian Magazine recently to talk how he got his start as a designer and much more. The interview comes as Ive will be featured in the 2017 issue of the magazine and today spoke at the Hirshorn Museum in Washington, D.C. We’ve written about former Apple employee Wayne Goodrich before. Back in 2012 he launched a lawsuit against Apple claiming that co-founder Steve Jobs told him in 2005 he’d be guaranteed a job for life at the company. That was after being fired by Apple a year after Jobs’ death despite his guarantee of job security. Now, Goodrich, who was an executive producer of public presentations and with Apple for almost 20 years, has been given the go ahead for the lawsuit by a judge in Santa Clara (via BizJournals):...

A federal judge has ruled that Apple has to face a lawsuit accusing the company of hiding the fact that iPhone demand in China was declining, leading to “tens of billions of dollars in shareholder losses.” The specific focus is on the comments made by Apple CEO Tim Cook during Apple’s fiscal Q4 2018 earnings call, Reuters reports. As a recap, Apple was forced to revise its Q1 2019 earnings guidance due to “fewer iPhone upgrades” and significant demand problems in China....

A new fan-made trailer for Justice League is the heavy-metal Snyder Cut of the film that fans have been waiting for. It’s been two years since Justice League hit theaters, but the superhero flick is still a hot topic in the media. Zack Snyder is credited on the film as director, but Joss Whedon took over the film for Warner Bros. after Snyder experienced a family tragedy. Early reports claimed that roughly 15-20% of Justice League was re-shot after Whedon started working on the film....

For a standalone film based on a phenomenally obscure property, Guardians of the Galaxy certainly made a name for itself in the annals of pop culture. I admit that I buy a new iPhone every year for the camera upgrades. My iCloud Photo Library is up to 14,633 photos and 1,261 videos and growing. Almost every one of those were captured with an iPhone so its camera matters to me. Last year’s iPhone 6s introduced Live Photos which I absolutely love. Weaker-than-expected demand for this year’s models has seen iPhone orders cut for the second time, claims a supply-chain report. It follows earlier reports that Apple had reduced orders for both the iPhone XS and iPhone XR … Digitimes makes the claim in a new report today. We first heard a claim that Apple had cut iPhone orders almost a month ago, suggesting a reduction as high as 25%. Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo added fuel to the fire when he dramatically scaled back his own sales forecasts....

A fresh claim of iPhone workers being used as forced labor in China has appeared today, following an investigation by the Tech Transparency Project. It suggests that iPhone glass supplier Lens Technology has been using Muslim minority Uighurs, who were given the stark choice of working in the company’s plant or being sent to detention centers which have been likened to concentration camps … The Washington Post carries the report....

Gizmodo is reporting that Apple has added another layer of protection/rejection to the App Store approval process. According to some (well sourced?) developer Tweets, Apple has added a static analysis tool to look for private API calls inside submitted Apps. According to Gizmodo, they’re looking for apps that have been developed with third party SDKs. That might not bode well for Adobe’s next version of Flash CS5 which features exporting Flash applications to iPhone....

The kit boils down to a wired-to-wireless bridge that allows up to eight contact sensors to communicate wirelessly with a Ring base station. The retrofit bridge goes for $199. But the bridge is useless without the base station. And the base station isn’t sold individually. If you don’t already have Ring products in your home, you’ll have to buy a base station as part of a Ring alarm kit in order to make use of the retrofit device....

We reported previously on the possibility of Apple making its iWork suite, and possibly its other premium content creation apps, available for free alongside iOS 7 and the launch of new iWork for iCloud web apps. It would make a lot of sense given it’s hard to imagine Apple allowing users to create documents for free on iCloud but not seamlessly transfer from iOS to Mac without having to throw down $30 for the three iOS apps....

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation’s Ronnie Ortiz-Magro took his daughter Ariana to Disneyland just days after his arrest. Although Ortiz-Magro spent a few hours in Van Nuys Jail in Los Angeles barely a week before the theme park visit, his social media posts showed a day full of fun and happiness. The trip took place just hours after a protective order against on-again, off-again girlfriend Jen Harley was lifted. Ortiz-Magro’s tumultuous relationship with Harley has been well-documented on social media and in the news....

Todd Phillips’ highly-anticipated DC movie Joker premiered at Venice Film Festival this weekend, followed shortly by the embargo lifting reviews - and early signs are promising with a “Fresh” score of 85%. The film imagines an origin story for Batman’s greatest nemesis, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a middle-aged man who lives with his mother and has a humiliating day job as a sign-spinning clown. Joker’s premiere follows the release of the final trailer for the movie, which revealed a little more about its story and characters, and left many DC Comics eager to see this take on the popular supervillain....

With the current explosion of interest in the Snyder Cut of Justice League getting hotter by the day, screenwriter Chris Terrio is the latest person involved with the film to offer his thoughts on the matter. Following Zack Snyder’s departure from the movie due to a family tragedy, Justice League went through reshoots which veered the movie far off-course from what the director had intended. A grassroots campaign would subsequently emerge aimed at convincing Warner Bros....
