As Apple prepares to report its earnings results for the second quarter of the 2021 fiscal year next week, a new report by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners finds that iPhone 12 models accounted for 61% of US iPhone sales in the quarter. According to the analysis, of all the iPhone 12 models, the iPhone 12 was the best selling, followed by the 12 Pro Max, 12 Pro, and 12 mini. iPhone 11 had the largest share for a single model, at 24%....

Evan Blass, prominent leaker and VentureBeat reporter, has revealed what he believes to be the release window for the next iPhone. If his hunch is correct, then we should expect the iPhone 7 and its various iterations to be released during the week of September 12th, 2016. Since Apple traditionally positions its major hardware releases for Fridays, a release during the week of September 12th would mean that the next iPhone would be released on Friday, September 16th, 2016....

The UK newspaper had claimed Apple plans to introduce a small version of the iPhone, quickly dubbed the ‘iPhone nano’. This gadget was reportedly to ship in time for Christmas and to be made available on a pay-as-you-go basis. The analyst counters, “While we believe Apple is working on a lower-end iPhone form factor, we do not think one will come until Spring 2009." This suggests Apple is working to deliver such a device, but isn’t planning one just yet, after all, the company has enough to do shipping the existing iPhone 3G to 50 more countries before the end of the year, the analyst writes....

Phil Schiller’s real testimony in the Apple v. Samsung damages trial will come later today, but he put the importance of the iPhone into perspective in his opening remarks yesterday by stating that Apple “bet the company” on it (via CNET). Schiller underlined this by stating that in the early days of development, just 100 people were working on the iPhone – now almost everyone in the company does. Most of the day was spent on technical accounting arguments, trying to determine exactly how much money Apple lost as a result of Samsung’s patent infringements, how much profit Samsung made and what would have been a reasonable payment had Samsung licensed the patents....

Asus unveiled Zenfone Max Pro M2 in December 2018 with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. The phone falls in a mid-range category sporting Snapdragon 660 SoC along with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Zenfone Max Pro M2 features a dual 12+5MP snappers at the back along with a 13MP snapper at the front and it is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery. Talking about if Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 will get Android 11 R, the short answer is NO....

As usual, Samsung is releasing new smartphones in the budget segment with their usual confusing line of A, F, and M series. In that way, we are getting two new smartphones this year namely the Samsung Galaxy M23 5G and Samsung Galaxy M33 5G. Both smartphones are targeting the 15K and 20K markets respectively. Well, they do feature impressive specs for the price that could deceive someone into buying them....

So, I thought I’d give it a whirl. I bought a $2 1-year data protection plan for a 16 GB USB drive from SanDisk. Then, I broke it and got to test out the service. Overall, I was pleased. But I’m not sure that I would recommend the extra investment. Update: The folks at Seagate reached out to me after reading this blog post. I have some updates and clarifications near the end of the review....

Israel’s largest mobile carrier, Cellcom, has announced that it is the first in the country to bring a multi-channel TV service to Apple TV at no extra charge. Cellcom offers both broadcast channels and video on demand in a low-cost service that competes with cable company Hot and satellite firm Yes, reports Reuters. Alongside the ever-increasing number of apps available on Apple TV, PlayStation Vue one of the latest to reach the platform, Apple is reportedly working hard on original content, though not, says Eddy Cue, by trying to launch its own streaming package....

IT Chapter Two tries to spin the reveal of Stan’s suicide note into a touching moment, but in doing so, fails the character and sends a bad message. While the first IT movie and its sequel IT Chapter Two changed many aspects of Stephen King’s book on which they’re based, one plot point that remained the same was that the Losers’ Club doesn’t return to Derry at full strength. The Losers’ Club - or as they’re sometimes referred to, the Lucky Seven - all head back to Derry as adults, nearly 30 years after seemingly vanquishing IT’s titular creature....

Apple’s got a new support doc out today and it sheds some light on what’s going on behind the scenes of iTunes LP. Firstly, to play an iTunes LP, you’ll need a 2GHz Dore 2 Duo or faster processor, so earlier model Minis and MacBooks need not apply. PowerPC? Pshaw (No). On PCs, the same requirements apply. Perhaps most interesting however, is the minimum screen requirements. Apple states that the screen resolution has to be at least 1280×800 on both Mac or PC....

Director James Gunn shares that Margot Robbie and he love the idea of Harley Quinn and Groot teaming up. Gunn and Robbie will be teaming up themselves for the Guardians of the Galaxy director’s new incarnation of The Suicide Squad. Although the 2016 version of the DC ensemble film brought in $747 million at the box office, it was panned by critics and audiences. In Gunn’s new and reportedly more comedic version of Suicide Squad, new actors will be featured, such as John Cena, Taika Waititi, Idris Elba, Alice Braga, and Nathan Fillion....

Apple products can provide amazing learning opportunities for students, but those living in poverty often don’t get the chance to use such devices. Now education software firm Jamf is looking to make a difference in the education of underprivileged children with a new iPad focused initiative. Announced in a blog post on its website today, Jamf is providing a whole new learning experience for 150 kindergarten students in Haiti with what it calls an “innovation pod....

Jason Blum has commented on the Netflix/Steven Spielberg controversy. Blum, whose Blumhouse Productions has been responsible for a lengthy list of hit films since it first opened shop in 2000, has long been a proponent of independent film and the need for filmmakers to maintain artistic control over their projects. With Steven Spielberg having recently kicked off a growing debate in Hollywood involving Netflix’s perceived advantages in promoting its films versus the methods of traditional studios, it seems like everyone from Oscar-winning Roma director Alfonso Cuarón to Ben Affleck has offered up their opinions....

Bluetooth headset maker extraordinaire Jawbone revealed earlier this year that they plan to bring a health aware electronic bracelet called Jawbone Up to the market later this year. Shipping times on the iPhone 5s have improved great worldwide, as noted by iGen. Following the phone’s launch, supplies were heavily constrained and shipping times lagged. Apple seems to have finally caught up with the demand for its latest smartphone, however, as global shipping times today are down to just one or two weeks. The iPhone 5c, which launched alongside the 5s, is still shipping within 24 hours of ordering. Supply for that model have not been nearly as limited as the 5s....

It’s iPhone buying season again and this year we’re faced with a very tough decision. Apple recently unveiled the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at its press event on Sept. 9, 2014 and as many rumors indicated, we now have a 4.7-inch model and a 5.5-inch model. Normally our choice would be narrowed down between color and capacity, but this year it’s much more than that… The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus may seem very similar on the outside, but that’s not exactly the case....
