Pegatron – Apple’s secondary iPhone assembler alongside Foxconn – has said that it is optimistic about demand for high-end phones this year. Nikkei reports that CEO S.J. Liao made the remarks during a press conference ahead of the company’s year-end, noting that the company would be increasing its capital expenditure this year. Pegatron currently makes the iPhone 8, while the flagship iPhone X is made by Foxconn – a pattern rumored to be repeated this year....

The iPhone X didn’t just set a new record for iPhone pricing, it’s also reportedly doing the same for how well it holds its resale value. Liquidation specialist B-Stock says that high demand is seeing used models sell for an average of 85% of the original price … Even bulk purchasers, such as companies buying returns from retailers, are paying around 75% of retail. B-Stock says that this is a substantially higher percentage than previous iPhone models sold at the same time in the product life-cycle....

Apple product vendors in Iran are laughing at reports from last week about U.S. Apple Store employees refusing sales to Farsi-speaking customers. According to a weekend story from the Agence France-Presse (via MSN News), iPhones and iPads are widespread throughout Iran’s capital: Hossein explained it is easy for traders to workaround the export restriction. He said Apple’s highly coveted products are smuggled into Iran through Iraq. He also noted practically everyone in Tehran owns an iOS device, while other salesclerks claimed several shops are “dressed up to look like official Apple Stores....

Kamcord, the SDK that lets iOS developers offer gameplay recording and sharing functionality, is today launching a redesigned community iOS app while announcing some impressive new milestones for the service. Kamcord’s Eric Edelman tells me the company is doing “greater than 1% of YouTube’s upload volume now,” which means it’s uploading more than 1 hour of gameplay videos every minute. In total the platform is now at 14 million videos uploaded by users accounting for a 4x growth in share rate and up 9M videos since May....

Doctor Who veteran Karen Gillan has joined the chorus of fans hoping to see more diversity on the show, when it comes to casting the next Doctor. Season 10 of the revived Doctor Who TV series is now underway, with Peter Capaldi playing the waylaid Time Lord known as The Doctor for a third and final time, before the character undergoes their next regeneration. Rumors about Capaldi’s replacement on Doctor Who having already been found aside, the question of who will be piloting the Tardis in season 11 remains unanswered for the time being....

This past weekend, an image claiming to show a bin of boxes for Apple’s upcoming lower-cost, plastic iPhone emerged with “iPhone 5C” as the purported product name. However, earlier today, the image was claimed to be debunked due to some minor inconsistencies and image distortion. The inconstancies do not seem to be prominent enough, though, to completely rule out legitimacy. Now, BusinessInsider is separately reporting that “iPhone 5C” will be the name of the upcoming plastic iPhone....

Bloomberg reports that iPads sold by Apple in China come standard with two years of the AppleCare protection plan. This differs from the one year standard in all other countries Apple sells the iPad in. The reason iPads from China include two-year warranties is because the Chinese government classifies Apple’s tablet as a computer and computers in China are required by law to include two-year warranties. We think this is quite interesting and it attests to the fact that many people are considering the iPad as either a laptop/netbook replacement or a secondary computer....
