While many welcome the feature, some of us just feel more used to Vine. It was first with the short videos, and it did something right. I don’t really know what, but whatever it did, it just works, and it’s fun. Fallon takes that approach, talking about the extra nine seconds you have with Instagram. Vine gives you six, and for some reason, it feels like enough. It’s just fun to make short videos that tell a story sometimes....

Reuters reports that the U.S. Government versus Apple eBooks collusion trial is set for June 3, 2013. The U.S. Government’s lawsuit is also against publishers Macmillan and Penguin Group, but not against the other three publishers (HarperCollins Publishers, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette Book Group) involved in the case. These publishers have already agreed to separately settle with the government. The lawsuit claims that Apple conspired with publishers to raise eBook prices, but Apple and these publishers deny this, instead saying that they have increased demand for eBooks and eBook readers....

Kamcord, the mobile gameplay recording platform that offers developers an easy way to implement cross-platform gameplay recording and sharing features, is today announcing its next big push in mobile gaming: competitions. The company realized that its SDK provides a lot of unique opportunities for app developers interested in hosting competitions or tournament-style contests, so it’s now working with some to host competitive gaming events in their apps. First up: SEGA. For its first big collaboration on an in-app gaming competition (it held a smaller test recently with developer Pixowl) Kamcord has teamed up with SEGA, which just started using the gameplay recording platform in a version of its popular Crazy Taxi City Rush title yesterday....

iPhone 12 preorders haven’t yet opened on apple.com, but Taiwanese carriers started accepting them yesterday, and have reported extremely strong demand … Digitimes reports that one sold its initial allocation in just 45 minutes. FET reported a 50/50 split in preorders between the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, while CHT says that 65% of orders were for the cheaper non-Pro model. Pre-sales for Apple’s just released iPhone 12 lineup have gotten off to a good start in the Taiwan market with telecom operators receiving handsome pre-orders, according to market sources....

Analysts are expecting the price people will pay for an iPhone to rise significantly heading into next year. Apple analyst Katy Huberty from Morgan Stanley released a report (via Business Insider) predicting iPhone ASP to rise to $753 in 2018, up from $695 in the holiday quarter just gone. Much of this increase is attributed to demand for the upcoming flagship iPhone model with an all-new design, OLED display and (almost) bezel-less front face....

Both Virgin and Boost Mobile have announced that they will make the iPhone X available for ordering starting November 3 and 10, respectively. In a press release, Virgin Mobile USA shared that customers can preorder Apple’s premium iPhone from the carrier’s website starting November 3rd. The Sprint owned carrier earlier this year made the move to go “iPhone only” with a reboot of its plans, along with a special offer of a year of service for $1....

Xiaomi has recently launched their latest note series smartphone, the Note 11 series. However, the launch was only exclusive to China through a special event. But we can expect the phone to other markets very soon. The Pro and Pro+ phones feature a Dimensity 920 5G chipset. While the nonpro Note 11 features a Dimensity 810 5G chipset. Another key difference is that the nonpro version only has an IPS LCD display, whereas the Pro and the Pro+ variants have AMOLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate....

After iOS 6 hit the Developer Center on Monday, its new features began to come out. Apple n Apps found a new feature today that involves Apple’s iTunes Match, which launched last November as a way to scan and match tracks in users’ iTunes library to all of their devices. One of the downfalls of iTunes Match was its absence of streaming music. Songs had to be downloaded and could not be played from the cloud....

The automaker said the integration would be available via a free, over-the-air update to more than 200,000 Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles with Jaguar’s Pivi Pro 3.0 infotainment system and a 12-month Online Pack subscription. The new update will allow drivers to use Alexa voice control to find the nearest coffee shop, play a specific playlist, make calls, check the weather, check smart home devices, and more, hands-free by using their voice....

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has reportedly found a voice for its King Shark in Steve Agee. Although little is known about the plot of the director’s first DC film, production on The Suicide Squad is set to begin in September. There has been a bit of confusion as to whether it will be a sequel or a reboot, but several characters from the 2016 film are set to reprise their roles, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Viola Davis as Rick Flagg, Captain Boomerang, and Amanda Waller, respectively....

Don’t call him a firefighter; in Playing with Fire, John Cena plays a smokejumper, which is totally different and – according to the character in the film – way cooler. While some of his fans would prefer Cena star in more testosterone-fueled fare (we’re still holding out hope for his take on Duke Nukem!), it’s hard to argue with the final result; Playing with Fire is a jolly exercise in family entertainment and adorably silly humor, anchored by an all-star cast that includes Keegan-Michael Key, John Leguizamo, Judy Greer, and Brianna Hildebrand....

Joseph Staten has been involved in some big Microsoft exclusives before. He was part of the team that helped develop and launch Halo 3. Coincidentally, that game was released with a bonus on its disc - a demo of Crackdown that was too big to offer for download at the time. Microsoft bundled the two games together to help increase the reach of Crackdown, and ever since, Staten’s career has been at least tangentially related to the game, even if it has been in his peripheral vision at times....
