Fred von Lohmann, a legal representative from the EFF, says that recent comments filed by Apple (PDF) with the Copyright Office as part of the 2009 DMCA triennial rulemaking state that iPhone and iPod jailbreaking constitutes copyright infringement and a DMCA violation. Bummer. One of Apple’s suppliers, Japan Display has had a challenging time over the last few years. The Irish coronavirus contact tracing app was launched yesterday, and has already been installed by more than 10% of the country’s population in less than 24 hours … The stat was noted by Steve Troughton-Smith. The app provides privacy assurances by using the Apple/Google API, which has doubtless encouraged adoption. It had earlier been speculated that the app would have to be available in the UK App Store so that it works in Northern Ireland, and we can confirm that this is indeed the case....

In the 40-plus years that the NBC sketch comedy institution Saturday Night Live has been on the air, the show has naturally seen lots of cast turnover. Sometimes cast members leave after long tenures, some leave after short runs to move on to solo projects, and others are let go after having been deemed expendable by producers. To date, SNL has played host to nearly 150 regular cast members, and it’s hard to imagine the seemingly eternal show, which has garnered some of its best ratings this season, not one day hitting the 200 cast member mark....

This 1990 crime epic charts the rise and fall of main character Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), who is seduced by the mafia lifestyle until the good things inevitably crumble. Reuters had claimed that Apple’s decision to sell the newly-released compilation, ‘Songs for Tibet’ caused Chinese internet police to pull the plug on iTunes access in the country – though Chinese music fans can’t actually buy music from foreign-based music stores. The Songs for Tibet album features 20 tracks from a range of artists, including Moby and Alanis Morissette. What’s apparently caused access to be blocked was that at least 40 athletes in the Olympic village had downloaded the music to play on their iPods in support of the campaign to Free Tibet....
